[ Informatie in het Nederlands ]

The Dutch Mathematical Olympiad (`Nederlandse Wiskunde Olympiade' = NWO) is an annual mathematics competition for high school students. The NWO is not only aimed at the ``top-of-the-class'', but at every student who feels challenged by a problem that involves unusual, entertaining, and not-every-school-day mathematics.

The Dutch Mathematical Olympiad has been organized since 1962 and is the oldest Dutch school olympiad. Since 1969, The Netherlands also participates in the International Mathematical Olympiad. In 1979 the NWO School Prize was established.

The NWO takes place in two rounds:

  1. The first round, which is held at the high schools, serves as selection round for the second round. The top-100 participants from this first round are invited to participate in the second round.

  2. The second round is held at the beginning of the school year at one location in The Netherlands. The very best from the second round receive additional training before participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Problems and solutions

Most NWO problems and solutions are available in Dutch only. We recently started with some translations:

NWO Foundation

The NWO Foundation (`Stichting Nederlandse Wiskunde Olympiade') is responsible for the annual organization of NWO.
